How Live Online Sessions Work

Personalized Instruction

With a student-teacher ratio of 5:1, students receive personalized instruction and guidance; Students participate in discussions about modern AI technologies, work on hands-on coding assignments, and receive continuous feedback through live screen share.

Collaborative Learning

Students work closely with their peers throughout AI demos and activities and work with multiple instructors during the program. In addition to technical AI project work, students attend instructor research spotlights, present at a final showcase event.

Inspirit AI Learning Portal

Students gain access to Python preparation materials, coding assignments, additional AI projects through the portal. The portal consists of 5+ complete AI projects in domains such as healthcare, economics, media, for students to continue their AI journey after!

AI for Social Good Project Tracks

AI Scholars Curriculum Overview

  • The program typically runs as a 10-session experiential bootcamp that exposes students to fundamental concepts, applications of AI and guides them to work on a hands-on project in a domain of their choice.

  • Students will receive preparation materials in advance to help them get the most out of the camp once they begin. This will include a Python and AI basics video series, and other readings.

  • Students with previous programming/AI experience will cover more advanced topics including Object Detection (e.g. used in applications like Amazon Go), Generative Models (e.g. used to create anime characters), and advanced Neural Networks. They will also work on a project with more intensive coding prerequisites.

First Half of Program (Sessions 1 - 5)

During the first half of the program, students will explore applications, foundational AI concepts, and develop AI programming skills. Students are able to participate in discussions about modern AI technologies as a group, work on hands-on coding assignments individually, and share their efforts by sharing their screen with the rest of the class.

Applications

We will start each day with a session on applications. E.g. “How does Alexa work?”, “How can AI be applied at Hospitals?”, “How can AI improve the environment?”

Conceptual Intuition

We will cover the conceptual intuition and some math behind important Machine Learning algorithms. Examples include Neural Networks, Decision Trees, Logistic Regression.

AI Programming Skills

We will guide students to implement mini-projects using Python. E.g. Classifying cells as cancerous or health, classifying restaurant reviews as positive or negative.

Second Half of Program (Sessions 6 - 10)

During the second half, students will apply the AI programming skills they learned in part 1 on a mentor-led AI for Social Good project and go through college and career preparation workshops as well. In addition to technical AI work, students participate in discussions about the ethics of AI, an AI panel, and a final presentation showcase, leading to an overall rich social experience.

AI for Social Good Project

Students will work in small groups virtually to complete an AI project under the guidance of a mentor, and present their work to parents and instructors during the final showcase. Projects options will cover a variety of domains and AI techniques which students will choose from.

College and Career Workshops

Workshops will include gaining inspiration from college admissions essays from our instructors, preparing for top-ranked CS/AI programs in the US, and pursuing ventures or careers in AI. The workshop series will also include instructor presentations on their individual research areas.

What Comes Next: Continuous AI Learning Journey

After students complete the AI Scholars program, they can continue their AI learning journey through a variety of additional program offerings for returning students. We offer a 1:1 AI + X Individual Research Project, as well as several Deep Dives courses, all of which equip students with graduate-level AI programming and research skills.
