AI Research for Experienced High School Students

1:1 Program: AI + X Individual Research

Inspirit AI offers a 1-on-1 research mentorship program for high school students to work individually with an experienced research mentor. In this 1:1 program, students will begin by extracting insights from large datasets, architect key questions, and then engineer machine learning models to answer them. In the process, students will iterate on their project and gain insight into the scientific research process. Upon completion of the course, students will have completed an independent AI project, research proposal, and final research paper/article. Interested students will receive guidance on how they may take their projects further to science fair or journal submission.

This program is designed for students with prior programming experience in Python (or another programming language).

Program Outcomes

  • Understand the lifecycle of a research project with literature reviews, question formulation, experimentation, analysis, technical presentation, and write-up.

  • Work with your mentor to write and edit a final research paper. Motivated students may advance their project to complete a deployed web application, submit to a high school journals or prepare for submission to a science fair event.

  • Culminate your AI experience with an AI + X Researcher Certificate by building on your AI Scholars experience through a challenging and meaningful independent research project to showcase your portfolio of projects in applied AI.

with an experienced AI research mentor from Stanford, MIT, or a leading university with industry and/or lab experience applying AI.

Guided Research Experience

from dataset/domain selection, to data visualization and AI modeling — eventually culminating in a portfolio-ready research paper.

Access to Multiple Datasets/Research Resources

in their application area including art, healthcare, mobility, law, journalism, physics, engineering, sports, psychology, and more!

Science Fair Preparation

resources to advance the project further for a science fair event, high school journal submission, web application deployment depending on students prior experience.

Our 1:1 AI + X Mentorship students develop in-depth research projects—and many students choose to share their findings with the research community through publishing their work in an academic journal, submitting to a science fair or competition, and even presenting at a conference. 1:1 Program: AI + X Research Fellowship

This premium track offers a more extensive experience for students who want to take on the ambitious goals of publishing their research, applying to science fair competitions, or deploying web applications to showcase their unique work. Features of the AI + X Research Fellowship include those of the Independent Research Project, plus:

25 1-hour sessions with a top university mentor specializing in the student’s domain of choice

Science Communication Module for Science Fairs and Journals

The Scientific Communication Module will be available as an add-on course for 25-session students. It consists of asynchronous videos, where experienced researchers will guide students step-by-step through the end-to-end workflow of identifying a venue, preparing their work appropriately, submitting, and revising.

Videos cover topics including:

  • The differences between journals and science fairs

  • Examples of accepted articles and science fair projects in different fields

  • Using principles of storytelling to structure your work for a journal

  • Pitching your work for a science fair application

  • Common mistakes to avoid when preparing your article and figures for journals

  • What to do and not to do when responding to presentation judge and audience questions

  • “What goes through a reviewer’s mind?”

Other workshop materials include:

  • “What venue should I submit to?” flowchart

  • Examples of work accepted to various science fairs and journals based on the field of study

  • Code snippets for common types of figures

  • Poster and presentation templates

AI + X Research Fellowship Certification

The AI + X Research Fellowship program allows students to showcase to build a comprehensive portfolio to show college admissions personnel the commitment to a long-term AI journey through in-depth independent research and mentorship.
